July 8 - "Loki"
Hello Jim and Marti!
It's been some time since we last updated you - somehow the kids and dog seem to take up all of our time :)
Loki is a love; I've attached photos that our friend took of him over the last weekend in June when she was watching him for us. He's big, probably about 70 pounds and at least 25 inches at the shoulder, and he is just so smart. John's hunting training is going well with the dog and Loki loves nothing more than running in the woods and swimming as much as he can - he loves when we go up to the mountains for the weekend and he can really cut loose. He's a handsome boy; we can't bring him anywhere without being stopped by admiring people.
We hope all is well with you.
~The Dotchels
June 2010 - "Bailey"
Hey Jim and Marti!
The wedding was great! We have attached some photos.
Bailey is doing great! Everyday she seems to amaze us! She is the sweetest dog in the world, loves to cuddle and always wants to be around us. She is also a very smart little girl! We couldn't ask for a better puppy!
Talk to you soon!
Brad and Megan
May 2010 - "Apache"
Hi Jim and Marti,
We thought you would like to see Apache at one year old. He is a great dog!
Dottie and Denny
Another great pup from Harriet/Sam. He is an excellent hunter and Dottie and Denny enjoy having him around. This is the second dog they bought from us. The first was a liver also from Harriet/Sam. As with all this breeding, she was great to have in the house and was also an excellent hunter. Jim
April 2010 - "Benton"
Jim,
It has been a while since I last e-mailed, so I figured I would give you an update on Benton. We moved to Virginia after the new year as I got a short-term assignment (8 months) in Arlington, VA. This move threw off some of my training plans for Benton, as I had to report down here about a month before Benton and Heather could move down.
However, I have linked up with the local NAVHDA chapter around here and begun training Benton for hunting more regularly. His natural abilities to hunt have really been coming through, and he has a nice point. I am looking to run him in a NAVHDA natural abilities test around June.
He has been to the vets regularly and is very healthy. He has grown pretty big as he weighs about 72 pounds, not from over feeding, he is just large. He has had some seasonal type allergies this spring and the vet gave him some medicine for conjunctivitis. He was neutered in mid January and is a strong looking pup. Other than that he gets a lot of execise down here and has adapted well to Heather and me. He has been an excellent pup and makes friends with both people and dogs wherever he goes.
I will try to get you some pictures as soon as we get them developed, and provide you with his ability test results when I run him through. Let me know if you are interested in anything else about Benton.
Take care,
Tom
January 2010 - "Apache"
Hi Jim and Marti.
Here is a picture from Friday, Jan 29 hunt at the game preserve - 4 chuckers and 2 pheasants. Apache is doing a great job - and only 8 months old! He loves to hunt. We love him and we are well pleased with him.
Denny and Apache have hunted today and last Saturday for grouse in areas that have been good in the past. But they have not been successful in finding any grouse.
Take care.
Dottie
Apache is another of Harriet/Sam's pups, pointing and retrieving at an early age. This is the Peiffer's second GSP they bought from us.
January 2010 - "Loki"
Hello Jim and Marti!
We wanted to give you an update about Loki. He's doing well - he's housetrained, cratetrained, and knows some basic commands (though listens only when he feels like it :) ). He had his last round of puppy shots last week and was 25 pounds; he's scheduled to be neutered at the beginning of March (don't tell him).
He's fit in nicely with the family; he loves the kids, and he and the cat have a funny, funny relationship where they torture each other all day and then give each other kisses when they think we aren't looking. Now that he has his shots we are looking forward to socializing him and taking him to obedience class - he needs help with his listening and his nonstop mouthiness.
~Heather
Loki is from the Kristine/Smokey breeding.
December 2009 - "Sniper and Gunner"
Marti and Jim,
Here's a picture of Sniper's first solo hunt (2 ringnecks and 1 woodcock). As you can tell from the picture, Gunner is still adjusting to our new "baby." Sniper sure does have a lot of energy! Aren't our two boys handsome? We are enjoying them so much. Thanks for 2 wonderful dogs!
Gunner was an Allison/Krisco pup from the 2004 litter. Gunner is Krissy's older brother. After the Schalls bought Gunner and were pleased with the way he hunted, they wanted another pup. Sniper, as expected, was hunting by 5 months. Sniper is from the May 2009 Harriet/Sam litter -- what a great mating. Their pups all hunt early and are so pleasant in the house.
November 2009 - "Sophie and Lexy"
Just wanted to give you an update on our November trip to South Dakota. Seven of us drove 26 hours straight through for a 3 day hunt in early November. Sophie and Lexy travelled very well....no problems at all, we just let them out every time we got gas. I was a little concerned about how they would react to the quantity of birds that we were told we would see. As it turned out, we saw hundreds and hundreds of birds. They adapted quickly and worked as well or better than the "local dogs" hunting with us. They pointed more birds than I thought they would because the wild birds are notorious for running out in front. Lots of birds, lots of point and lots of retrieves....I couldn't ask for better dogs........and they are still only 1 year old and 2 years old!
November 2009 - "Lucy"
Lucy is 52lbs and is 24" at shoulder. She is a real joy. -Robert and Pat
October 2009 - "Gunner"
Hi Jim and Marty,
We bought a GSP from you about 2 years ago. I think you called him Bronwy, which is now Gunner. I talked to Jim at the Mifflinburg outdoor show about where would be a good spot to go for pheasants and Jim said the Laurelton game lands along with a game farm. Well I tried the game farm with 4 birds put out with Gunner flushing 3 of the 4, but we didn't get any. Today I took my son to the game lands at Laurelton and Gunner flushed 10 out which my son shot the last 2. We were VERY excited !! This is Gunner's second time out, and we are ready to go again!! Besides all this he is a very big part of our family. I'll try to send some pictures of the day.
He was well worth the money we spent for him. Sincerely,
Bob Fisher
August/September 2009 - "Benton"
We took Benton in for his second vet visit. He weighed just over 21 pounds. The vet said he looks very healthy and strong. We will bring him in again in about three weeks for his rabies shots. He is becoming more and more comfortable with us, and seems to have adjusted to his daily schedule well. We have slowly socialized him to people, dogs, environments and he takes to them rather well. Everyone who meets him can't believe how calm and respectful his is at such a young age. -Tom
As far as training, I have begun to introduce him to firearms and he has responded well. We have got alot of basic obedience down, and looking to move into basic field skills soon. I will continue to keep you updated.
Benton is from our last Harriet/Sam litter.
August 2009 - "Sam"
Jamar Cloverking Sampson "Sam" received his Rally Excellent title at the Penn Ridge Kennel Club Rally Obedience Trial on August 7, 2009 at the Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg. Sam is owned and handled by Brad Jordan.

2009 - "Maggie"
I just wanted to give you a quick update on Maggie. First of all she is a joy and we thank you for all the care you gave her as a pup--it is evident in her temperament and loving nature. Maggie has certainly become a part of the family. She is so smart and quickly learned routines and house rules. Best of all, she has only had one accident in the house. We are amazed at how well she sleeps--better than me. Maggie loves flowers (like the roses at your place) and often walks with one in her mouth. As you can see from the pictures she is growing rapidly and becoming more beautiful each day. Everyone comments on how pretty she is. Maggie is actually an unusual dog for this area because there is really no one in this part of Ohio who breeds them. I seem to be going on and on like a proud parent! We still have one question: How did you raise seven puppies??! ! We are exhausted from one. When Maggie goes to sleep for the night we fall into a chair. Thank you again for everything you have done and we will keep you posted. Karen, Peter & Maggie
July
2009 - "Jackson"
Hey Jim and Marti
We just wanted to send you a hello, and let you know Jackson turns 5 years old today!
Here is a recent picture of him. We have been living on a 55 acre farm, and it is heaven on earth for him!
Hope you are doing well!
-Cydney, Jesse, & family
July
2009 - "Sophie and Lexie"
This photo was taken at the 4th of July Pet Parade in Mifflinburg. Sophie (2 yrs.), the darker dog, was handled by Kelsey, age 9. Lexie (one), was handled by Morgan, age 8. Lexie and Morgan won third prize in their group. The dogs were well behaved and the kids had no problems.
Sophie and Lexie, besides loving their family, are excellent hunters. Both have been hunting by 5-6 months. They point, hold point, back each other and retrieve birds shot. They are house dogs, family members and prove that house dogs can be hunters.
July
2009 - "Dawson"
Dawson is doing very well. Accidents in the house are few and far between and really no longer an issue for us. He's been great with the boys and a companion for both Shelly and me. He likes to come up in my office and sleep. Usually it's a race between Oaklie and Dawson to get the good dog bed in my office - usually where there's sunlight coming in. He loves to go out on the deck and lay in the sun too.
He doesn't like thunderstorms though...that's an understatement. He gets terrified at just the first sight of raindrops. So it's always a dilemma if he hasn't been out in a while and it rains for hours because we have to force him (and he's a strong boy) to go out. In the middle of the night if there's a storm coming, he lets us know by nuzzling up along the bed and pacing. That's when he ends up in the crate.
Didn't you say you had a litter of pups on the way or possibly this fall? I keep teasing Shelly that we need a puppy. She's not so enthusiastic about the idea.
Take care..
Ross, Shelly, Dawson, Oaklie and the boys...
March 2009 - "Maya"
Hi Marti & Jim,
I hope you enjoy Maya's first show picture in New England, MA. She is doing so well, everyone loves her & says she is a beautiful liver. Thank you for my precious little girl! She is entered in the Harrisburg, PA show in April. I'll send her next pic as well. So what do you think of her? Blessings, Tracey

2008 - "Sam"
Jamar Cloverking Sampson "Sam" achieved
his AKC Rally Advanced title with his handler and co-owner Brad
Jordan on November 1, 2008.
Congratulations to Brad
and Sam. Our versatile GSPs excel in field work, obedience, pet
therapy, and of course in the home as stable, loving family pets.
August
2008 - "Lexy"
Sunday Lexy found the planted birds, but didnt
really get excited about them. Monday night however, she was like
a different dog. She made some good points on the birds and when we
did
knock them
down, she was all over them as you can see in the pictures. I let
her play with them a little more than what I think I normally would,
just
to try to get her interest up. She had a good time with them but
never chewed them. She just got a mouthful of feathers like Sophie
does.
She did act like she wanted to retrieve them a few times too. I think
the
next time out, I'll get Dave to plant a few Chukers. - Sam Smith
July 2008 - "Lexy"
Kelsey took Lexy in the Mifflinburg pet parade Friday. Thought
I'd send you a few pictures. No prizes this year, but they had 40 dogs
in
it.
Had a lot of people ask where I got her and I explained that this is
our 2nd GSP. I dropped your name to a few guys. I don't know
if they will follow up or not. Anyhow, she's coming along nice.
She sleeps all night. That's the bigggest improvement!! I had them
both
out yesterday at the gamelands to see how they would do together. There
were no problems, and she pretty much followed Sophie around and did
what she did. I guess that's a good thing. I didnt think she grew
much over the last few weeks, but now she must be hitting a growth
spirt or something. She's filling out nice and her legs are
getting
long. Just thought I'd give you an update that everything is going
good. - Sam Smith
March
2008 - "Zoe"
Zoe
caught a turkey while we were pheasant hunting at the Delaware in December.
She still likes to
get ahead of us and we found her pointing a turkey in a tree. When
we got closer to look at it, it took off but close to the ground,
she took off after it and retrieved it. Today she grabbed
a pheasant on the fly, it was one that we knocked down, it wasn't
at full strength.
She pointed the 10 birds that we stocked and 3 of the follow-ups
that we missed. Dan and Wyatt a 10 year old did the shooting, Dan
got four and Wyatt got two. I got to shoot them all with my camera.
- Ed Zielke
Zoe is from the first Harriet/Sam
litter (2006) and is owned by Ed Zielke.
January 2008 - "Sophie"
We had Dave release 10 pheasants Saturday. The
pics above show Sophie pointing 2 birds. We got all 10 birds. Jamie
got her first 2 ever, her dad got 3, I shot 4, and Sophie got 1!
We had a hen take off running and Sophie caught it. She is like a rocket
sometimes!! I dont want to say Sophie had an "off day" but
she kind of had a mind of her own. It was snowing and that might
have had her a little messed up. There were no major problems, she
just
had to be reminded of what she was to be doing every now and then.
I guess you cant really fault her when she did point 10 of the 10
birds that were killed!!!! I guess she had a good day after all.
- Sam Smith
Sophie is from last year's (2007) Harriet/Sam litter.
Five pups, that I know of, hunted by 5-6 months. - Jim
April 2007
I’ve
been hunting with Jim, and his German Shorthair Pointers for about
a decade now. When we
go into the fields, woods, or briars,
we are confident if there are birds in the area the dogs will find
them. Hunting birds as much as we do, Jim and I run into other
hunters with different breeds of dogs. We are amazed at how well
his German
Shorthair Pointers stack up against the other breeds.
In the last few years Jim has invited me to come along on the
Youth Hunt. Adults are not permitted to carry guns during the Youth
Hunt, only the kids can shoot. Jim's dogs give these young
hunters an opportunity to shoot pheasants. Last year, one of the
kids had a chance to shoot his first rooster pheasant, and he connected.
What a thrill it was for him and it was made possible by Jim’s
dogs.
The one thing that stands out to me about Jim's dogs is
the enthusiasm they show hunting. German Shorthair Pointers have
a great disposition and are relentless hunting dogs in the field.
I would recommend Jim's dogs to anyone who hunts, or to anyone
who just wants to have a fantastic pet. - Bill Evans
April 2007 - "Joie"
Here are a few pictures of Joie. As you can see the true nature
of a GSP is evident in these pictures. Best to you both - Judy & Bob
Judy and Bob bought Joie from us about 6 years ago. - Jim
April 2007 - "Jackson"
We
have never hunted Jackson. He's just been a big love muffin for us!
:) But I can say we have really enjoyed
him. What a smart dog! He's been really healthy too. He has so
much personality, it's hard not to treat him like a human! He's
very affectionate and knows how to demand attention. Crisco was
his daddy, and a big boy, if I remember correctly. Jackson is following
suit, tipping the scales at just over 100 pounds!... not common
for GSP's, right? His favorite thing to do is go hiking
with us. Mommy takes him walking 3 miles every day (and me at 9
months pregnant,
I sure get a lot of strange looks!). We are constantly
getting compliments from total strangers about what an attractive
dog he is, but it always amazes
me how many people think he's a blue tick hound, dalmatian, or
lab. Maybe someday we'll be coming to get GSP #2 from
you! - Jesse, Cydney & Jackson
It's neat how our GSPs that never had
hunt training will prove that it's bred into them. This isn't the
first GSP we've sold as a pet that if given the opportunity will
point like a veteran hunting dog. We've met many great families through
our dogs; just an added bonus that this wonderful animal can give.
- Jim
April 2007 - "Anna"
I thought I would write to tell you how pleased my wife and I are with our German
Shorthaired pointer, Anna, which we purchased from you in December of 2002.
The first time I took Anna bird hunting as a pup, I was amazed at how she would
lockup on point. I think a bomb could have gone off next to her and she still
would not have budged. My brother was hunting with me with his Weimaraner and
every time it pointed a bird, it would break point and flush the bird before
we could get close to take a shot. Anna, on the other hand, would hunt more closely
to us and hold point until we could get into position for a good shot. I have
never enjoyed hunting over a pointer more than I do hunting over Anna.
My wife and I go to Canada fishing every year and we never forget to take our
fishing pal Anna. She is so good in the boat! Of course, everyone at camp loves
her.
I just had to write this note to express our gratitude for selling us the best
dog we have ever owned.
Best Regards,
Bill and Robin Drasher
Bill just bought a pup from our current litter. Four years ago, he
bought Anna from us. She's Harriet's sister. - Jim
May 2007 - "Gunnar"
Jim
and Marti,
Thought we would give you an update on Gunnar. My how he has grown. What a wonderful
puppy. You can tell that he was well taken care of and loved. We are enjoying
him so much. I think he has doubled his size. Our other shorthair is finally
coming around. We were a little concerned, but she has been doing a lot better
with him. He is doing very well with the potty training. Once in a while he will
start to whine when he has to go. The kids are enjoying taking turms sleeping
with him and taking him to soccer games. We just want to thank you again for
your kindness in letting us come into your home whenever we wanted to visit him.
You are the kindest people. Thanks again for everything you have done. - Robert
and Kimberly Fisher
October 2006 - "Shiloh"
Here
are some pictures of Shiloh (the Bandit). The first one is of him
running with a frozen quail we got on his first hunt. He's becoming
a good companion, and his deep bark makes him a good watch dog. He
loves everybody, and we all get a big kick out of him!! He loves
to be outside.
He's also doing really well with commands, and almost always comes running
now when we call him in from the yard - this is a huge improvement from the
way he used to totally ignore us when we called!! We have an underground electric
fence that we've started using on him recently, and I think that has something
to do with it. He knows exactly where his boundaries are and always stays in
them.
He'll soon be 6 months old, and weighs about 55+ lbs.
Enjoy!
