Baron's great!
Dear Jim & Marti, Well here it is, almost 2 years since the addition of Baron to our family. He has been a real joy! I'm just as happy to see him after a long day of work as he is to see me! I've been wanting to tell you how much we appreciate all you've done and continue to do for us. We would like to thank you so much for your friendship, your dedication to the sport of pheasant hunting and your dedication of breeding top quality German Shorthair Pointers. Your belief in introducing area youth to pheasant hunting with your dogs helped us make the decision to join the many households of dog families. At age 12, Sean was very excited to hear he had an invitation by you to go on a youth pheasant hunt using dogs. His dad, Scott, was just as excited remembering his youth days of pheasant hunting! After 3 years of hunting over Eagle, Mary, Harriet and Mr. Tibbs, we decided it was time to get our own dog. We talked about the pro's and con's of the various hunting breeds to Sean but decided we would let him make the final decision. It was really a no brainer. After hunting with the GSP, there was no other dog he would consider. Sean wanted a GSP, it had to be liver in color and it had to be one of yours! May 2009, Harriet gave birth to our pup, Baron, AKC name "Sean's Big Baron von PIF". The acronym "PIF" stands for "Pass It Forward" because like you, we also want to follow your tradition of inviting youth that otherwise wouldn't have the opportunity to hunt with a dog and enjoy a day out in the field. From allowing us to witness the birth of our pup to all the help you have given us with his obedience and field training, we can't thank you enough. It was great when we got him at 8 weeks old that he could go up and down steps, was on his way to being crate and potty trained. Your guidance Marti, in clipping his nails and other grooming tips were greatly appreciated. You both helped make Baron's transition to our home real smooth! A word about Baron, he is so eager to please. He has a great personality and disposition. He gets along well with other dogs, small and large. I love taking him for walks. He has a gait that says, "Look at me"! I think because of his solid liver color, alot of people confuse him for a chocolate lab. People are surprised when we tell them he is a GSP (of course they aren't dog people)! We get alot of compliments on how nice looking he is. As far as his hunting ability, it is hard to believe he was pointing birds and retrieving them at only 3 months of age! Every time we take him out in the field, you can see him getting better. This past fall when we had him out, he was working a fence row when another hunter and his dog came up below us. Out of courtesy, he stopped, held his dog and watched as Baron proceeded to do his thing. Baron went into his point and held it till I got around to the other side of the fence row. Sean walked up and flushed two birds out. Unfortunately, they flew my way and kept going, I'm not a great shot (next time I'll flush and let Sean shoot)! The hunter came up and complimented us on how well Baron kept his point and that Baron didn't get distracted by him or his dog watching. He asked where we had gotten Baron and when we said Hornberger's from Lewisburg, Clover King Kennels, he said he thought so. He told us he could tell because of Baron's conformation, color and how well he worked in the field. That was so neat to have someone recognize Baron's breeder just by looking at him! If we had the space, we would be a two dog family. There would be no doubt where we would get a hunting buddy for Baron. Baron is a great hunting companion, personal companion and a great house pet! We enjoy him being a part of our family. Looking forward to our next outing with you and your bunch. Again, thank you for everything. Hope you enjoyed the pictures. Fondly, |
