Fourteen year old Ben Steese Wins Pheasant Hunt

Fourteen year old Ben Steese won one of two pheasant hunts given away at the Seventh Annual Shamokin Mountain Squirrel Tournament. He was able to connect on four of the seven birds. The dog handler was Sam Smith and the dogs were Sophie and Lexy. This was Ben's first experience hunting over bird dogs. Even in 40+ mph winds, the dogs and hunter had a good day.

Sam and his dogs are active in promoting Youth Hunting opportunities. He takes young hunters out in the October Game Commission Youth Hunt season. I encourage all hunters with bird dogs to promote hunting to youngsters that would like a chance to enjoy a day in the field.
